With a decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria dated 17.08.2018, the NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM "ELECTRONIC HEALTH IN BULGARIA" (e-health) was approved.

EHealth means the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in health products, services and processes, combined with organizational change and new skills, in order to improve both citizens' health and the efficiency of health services delivery. .

The program follows the guidelines of the European Action Plan for the introduction of e-health by 2020 and is established in implementation of the National Strategy for Research Development (NRNI) 2030.

The overall goal of the Program is to improve the quality and timeliness of medical care while optimizing the costs of computerized activities and reducing the burden on medical staff with technical and administrative tasks.

With the signing on 16.11.2018 of an AGREEMENT between the Ministry of Education and Science, as a funding body and the Medical University - Sofia, leading partner and coordinator of the Consortium for the implementation of the National Research Program "Electronic Health in Bulgaria (e-Health)", the Program was launched.
